The Crossroads will come alive once again on May 6th, with a whole different energy for First Fridays. For over a decade thousands of visitors and residents have filled the streets to engage in the numerous art studios and galleries in the district while enjoying food trucks and live performances. Think, giant block party celebrating the arts! So where is the action? The Crossroads district is basically between the Kauffman Center downtown and Union Station.
Pro tip: Park at Union Station or River Market and hop on the streetcar where you can jump off from 16th to 20th and Main.
But if that’s not enough, the First Friday weekend spills over to the West Bottoms and some of our favorite vintage stores (like Urban Mining) and flea markets that only open on First Friday weekends. The West Bottoms is 5 minutes west of downtown KC in the stockyards. Filled with old warehouses that once supported the cattle industry, many of those industrial buildings are filled with vintage and reclaimed stores where you can find a unique treasure or new furnishings for your home or office. Food and adult beverages are served in the area so plan on staying all day and hunting the hundreds of storefronts and booths in the area.
If you want to take a break from shopping, a visit to Amigonia Urban Winery for a wine tasting or take a seat at The Ship for a great lunch and a bite out of KC history.
