As long as I can remember I’ve known my hometown to be the “city of fountains.” I loved the fountains as a kid and love them even more now. According to the city of Fountains Foundation, the metro has more than 200 officially registered fountains.
The first municipally built fountain in KC proper was situated at 15th & Paseo as part of George Kessler’s plan to develop this beautiful boulevard. The fountain which opened in 1899 cost Kessler $12,000 or $366,000 in today’s dollars.
