Whether moving across town or across the country, it’s important for you and your family and friends to have an agent you can trust. We are part of an exclusive network of real estate professionals that operate throughout North America and are committed to serving and providing value to clients before, during and after the transaction. Our Great Cities, Great Homes series is intended to introduce you to Realtors in our network as they give you a glimpse into life in different areas of the country.
New York City is a great place to retire to. (In the interest of full disclosure, there are less expensive places for housing.) But if you are ready to take the plunge, New York City has it all. Whether your passion is theater, music, sports, fine dining, or art to name but a few of the city’s pleasures, we have it here in abundance. If without the commitment of a job, there are many events free or heavily discounted for seniors during the day. Whatever obscure hobby you may enjoy, there are thousands of people here who enjoy it too. For example, I studied German in high school and recently discovered a group at NYU that meets together to read and discuss modern German fiction. In German!
As we age, it becomes increasingly difficult to deal with stairs, drive cars, do yard work. In New York City, none of that is an issue. People without cars is a whole subculture here. So if you or someone you know would like to explore the option of a primary or secondary residence in New York City, I would be happy to help them navigate the challenges.
Maria asked me to include “one thing you gotta do when you’re in Manhattan.” That is like asking someone to name their favorite child. Almost impossible to do. But I aim to please so… the one thing I always came to New York City to do before I moved here was Broadway theater. For me there is no greater thrill than the orchestra playing the overture to a Broadway show. It is where the anticipation of what is to come (the scenery, the costumes, the singing and dancing) sweeps over you. Bright lights, Broadway. Just one of New York City’s many pleasures.
